For fans that were expecting the new season of Issa Rae’s Insecure, looks like you’ll have to wait it out another year. In a new interview with Vulture — released on Monday — HBO’s programming chief Casey Bloys confirmed that the Emmy-nominated series is not set to make its return until at least 2020.
When asked about the extra delay, Bloys explained that Rae’s has been quite busy. “Issa became a big movie star!” He said, before praising the show, and adding that this isn’t the first time the network has waited on the return of a show.
“We’re not the first place to deal with this,” Bloys continued. “But when you’re in business with very creative and talented people, there’s a lot more opportunities for people to do things. Issa, I think, partly wanted a break to come back to it fresh.”
Insecure finished its third season last fall, with the Regina King-directed season finale airing on September 30. This summer
